Privacy notice.
How HomeEnergy Consulting handles the information you share when you enquire about independent home energy advice.
HomeEnergy Consulting is an independent home energy consulting practice based in Ontario, Canada. This notice explains, in plain language, what personal information we may collect when you contact us and how we use it. It is written to reflect ordinary Canadian and Ontario privacy expectations; it is not legal advice and does not claim any formal certification of compliance.
What we collect
If you choose to contact us — by email or, once connected, through the enquiry form or a booking link — we may collect the details you provide, such as:
- Your name and email address;
- Your general location or region in Ontario;
- The project type you're considering and the systems in your home;
- Whether you requested a sample report and which service interests you;
- Your consent choices for a service follow-up or optional planning updates;
- Your email address and consent record if you subscribe to The Ontario Home Energy Note;
- Your rough timing; and
- Anything you write in your message.
Please share only what's needed to describe your enquiry. Do not submit utility account numbers, financial or payment details, medical information, or other sensitive documents through the website form or email. If specific documents are needed later, we'll arrange a secure way to share them.
Website analytics
With your permission, this website uses Google Analytics to understand which pages, resources and referral sources are useful. Analytics is off by default until you choose “Allow analytics.” If you continue without analytics, no Google Analytics tag is loaded.
When enabled, analytics may record page views, approximate location, device and browser information, referral source, and interactions such as consultation-link clicks, successful newsletter or contact submissions, intake-link clicks and sample-report requests or downloads. Form contents, email addresses, utility account numbers and other details typed into forms are not intentionally sent to Google Analytics. Advertising storage and ad personalization remain disabled.
You can change your choice at any time using the control. Google maintains its own privacy practices for Analytics data.
Why we use it
We use the information you provide only to:
- Respond to your enquiry;
- Assess whether and how we can help, and which engagement fits; and
- Provide a sample report you requested and follow up once about the relevant service;
- Send occasional planning updates only when you separately opt in; and
- Schedule and prepare for a consultation.
Service providers
Email, website enquiries, newsletter requests, online bookings and the secure intake portal are handled by service providers acting on our behalf, including Titan and Resend for email, Formspree for website-form delivery, Calendly for scheduling, Netlify for website hosting and Supabase for intake authentication, storage and account access. We'll limit what we share to what's needed to provide the service. Those providers maintain their own privacy practices.
Newsletter
The Ontario Home Energy Note is an optional monthly newsletter. Subscription forms record the email address supplied, the consent choice, the page where the request was made and the time of submission. Newsletter consent is separate from requesting a sample report, making an enquiry or booking a consultation.
You can withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe option included in a newsletter, replying to the email, or contacting hello@homeenergy-consulting.ca. We will stop sending optional newsletter messages after processing the request.
No sale of personal information
We do not sell your personal information, and we don't share it with third parties for their own marketing.
Data minimization and retention
We aim to collect only what we need. We keep enquiry information only as long as reasonably necessary to respond to you, to run and support the consulting relationship, and to meet ordinary business or legal record-keeping needs — after which we delete or de-identify it.
If you opt in to occasional planning updates, you can withdraw that choice at any time by replying to an email or contacting hello@homeenergy-consulting.ca. Withdrawing optional marketing consent does not affect access to a requested sample report or consulting service.
Safeguards
We use reasonable, commonly accepted measures to protect the information in our care. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
Accessing, correcting or deleting your information
You can ask us what enquiry information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@homeenergy-consulting.ca and we'll respond within a reasonable time.
External links
This site links to external services — including Calendly for online booking and our YouTube, Instagram and Facebook profiles. Those services are operated by others and have their own privacy practices, which we don't control.
Homeowner intake app
After a consultation is booked, HomeEnergy Consulting may send an invitation link to a separate browser-based intake portal. The portal asks factual and preference questions about the home, equipment, energy use, outages, goals and available documents. Optional photos and supporting files may also be added.
The portal uses a secure email link instead of a password. Answers are saved to the homeowner's private account so the homeowner can return later, update the record and submit it for review. Each homeowner can see only their own properties and answers; authorized HomeEnergy Consulting accounts can review submitted records and add private consultant notes.
Intake records are stored in Supabase. Optional files are kept in private storage and access is controlled by the homeowner's property record and consultant role. Homeowners do not need to download or email an intake package.
Intake information is treated as homeowner-provided and unverified until it is reviewed together during the consultation. Homeowners should not include unnecessary sensitive information and should never open equipment, remove covers, touch wiring or take risks to obtain a photo.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as the practice grows and as services are connected. The effective date above reflects the most recent update.
