Home Energy Decision Consult
A focused comparison of simple options for one question — using your current equipment, consumption, behaviour and priorities. See what makes the most financial sense, what is fastest, and what is easiest to live with.
Start with a guided intake about your home. Finish with a visual report that compares cost ranges, effort, maintenance, convenience and next steps — including relevant options you may not have considered. No equipment sales or installer commissions.
Rural, cottage & complex-load homes
Most homeowners get pitched one product at a time. I help you see how the pieces fit — so your next decision doesn't box in the one after it.
Whether panels and storage make sense for your roof, load and goals — and how to size them without overbuying.
Cold-climate heat pump options, backup heat, and whether ground-source is worth it for your property.
Generator sizing, backup panel planning and battery-vs-generator choices — so the essentials actually stay on when the grid doesn't.
Time-of-use and tiered rate strategy, plus the right order to make upgrades so each one pays off before the next.
Energy upgrades are expensive and long-lived. The costliest errors usually aren't bad equipment — they're the wrong sequence, the wrong size, or a decision made without the full picture.
Onsite meetings are available for rural, semi-rural and cottage-area homes across Durham Region and Northumberland. Homeowners elsewhere in Ontario can work remotely by FaceTime or video meeting when they are comfortable sharing documents, photos and a guided video walk-through.
The intake app gathers the facts before we meet, so the consultation can focus on the decision instead of paperwork.
After booking, I send you a guided intake app. It takes about 10–15 minutes for most homes, and “not sure” is always a valid answer.
Add your current equipment, usage, goals, bills and quotes. Photos are optional. A partly completed intake is still useful.
We confirm the facts on the call. Your report then compares practical options, ranges, effort and next steps in plain language.
A focused comparison of simple options for one question — using your current equipment, consumption, behaviour and priorities. See what makes the most financial sense, what is fastest, and what is easiest to live with.
See competing quotes normalized with tables and visuals across price, payment terms, scope, equipment, warranties, timelines, exclusions and unresolved questions.
Compare generator, battery, hybrid and load-priority paths across cost ranges, automation, maintenance, installation effort, fuel and outage needs.
A whole-home plan that compares upgrade paths, costs, effort, disruption, maintenance, incentives and timing — then puts them in the right order.
Installers are good at what they install. But when advice and a sale come from the same place, the advice bends toward the sale. I don't sell equipment, carry a brand, or earn commission — so there's no reason to steer you toward any one product.
“No equipment to move. No quota to hit. No single product to push — just the option that actually fits.”
This service exists because I couldn't find it when I needed it. After moving from the suburbs into a home with geothermal heating, a well pump and backup power to think about, I discovered how hard it is to get straight, unbiased, practical guidance for a complex home.
An ice storm made the backup gap obvious. The generator I bought was undersized and the backup panel wasn't set up ideally. An energy assessment gave me a rating but no real strategy. And when I asked solar companies for proposals, they came back so different in products, pricing and timelines that they were nearly impossible to compare.
I worked through most of it alone, and it took far more time and stress than it should have. That's the gap I now help other homeowners avoid — independent, system-level advice before you commit money to any one contractor or product.
One practical decision framework, one current Ontario program or rate update, and one homeowner question. Vendor-neutral and written for real homes.
Installers are good at what they fit, but when the advice and the sale come from the same place, the advice bends toward the sale. I have nothing to sell you — so the recommendation can just be right for your home.
No responsible advisor can. Savings depend on your home, your usage, equipment, contractor pricing, utility rules and program eligibility — all of which change. I give you honest ranges and the reasoning behind them, not promises.
Yes — it's one of the most common reasons homeowners get in touch. I'll put quotes side by side, flag oversizing or missing scope, and give you the questions to ask each contractor before you sign.
Tell me about your home and what you're considering. We'll figure out the right first step together.
